01In short
With evening-before check-in you drop off your luggage the night before your flight and only need to pass security on the day of departure. This mainly helps travellers with very early flights. Availability depends on the airline and the time window, and it takes place in Terminal 1.
02How evening-before check-in works
Ideally you check in online, travel to BER the evening before, and drop your luggage at the designated desk area in Terminal 1. On the flight day you skip the check-in desk and go straight to security and the gate.
03Requirements
You usually need a confirmed booking, online check-in and valid travel documents. Some airlines require a time window or a deadline until the next day. Special luggage may have different rules.
04Participating airlines and possible times
| Airline (selection) | Evening-before window | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Lufthansa Group (Lufthansa, Austrian, SWISS, Brussels and others) | approx. 17:00–19:30 | Terminal 1; up to 23 hrs before departure |
| easyJet | approx. 18:00–21:00 | Terminal 1; for flights until 09:30 the next day |
| Eurowings | approx. 18:00–20:00; Sat 14:00–16:00 | Terminal 1; for flights until 12:00 the next day; fee may apply at staffed desk; some flights excluded |

05Documents needed
Have your ID or passport, the boarding pass from online check-in and your booking details ready. For travel outside the Schengen area, also check the destination country's entry requirements.
06Getting to BER the evening before
For the evening bag drop, a transfer with a fixed pickup time is convenient, especially with several suitcases. You go, drop the luggage and return, without worrying about parking or connections.
07Return to Berlin
After the bag drop you head back into the city. Plan the return at the same time so the evening is not shaped by waiting.
08Alternative: airport hotel
If you fly very early, an overnight stay near the airport can replace two trips. Then only a short distance lies between bag drop and departure. Whether it is worthwhile depends on your departure time and where you live.
09Transfer on the actual flight day
Even with evening-before check-in you still need a way to the terminal on the flight day. Plan the pickup time as usual; only the check-in step is removed. See How early to arrive at BER?.

11Checklist for the evening trip
- First check that your airline and your specific flight allow evening-before bag drop. The three windows in the table are not a general opening time for every flight.
- Check in online where your airline requires it and bring your booking, boarding pass and identity documents. Ask the airline directly about special baggage or extra document checks.
- Plan to arrive at the Terminal 1 counter during your airline's window. BER currently lists counters 421–426 for the Lufthansa group.
- Decide how you will return after dropping off your bags and travel to BER again on departure day. Early bag drop does not replace security or any other checks required for your journey.
