A cat travels differently from a dog. New noises, unfamiliar people and strange surroundings can quickly cause stress. That's why a relaxed flight doesn't begin at the terminal, but with planning the journey to BER.
The transport crate is the most important point
The cat should stay safely in a sturdy, well-ventilated transport crate throughout the entire journey. The crate must be large enough for the animal to lie down and turn around, while at the same time fitting well in the vehicle.
Place an absorbent liner and a familiar blanket in the crate. Strongly scented products, loose toys or open food containers do not belong inside. The crate must not slide around during the journey.
State the pet when booking
Activate the pet option directly when booking. Specify a cat in a transport crate, the dimensions of the crate, the number of travellers, the number of suitcases, the pick-up address, the departure time and the terminal.
For a cat with hand luggage, a normal vehicle is often enough. With several large suitcases, a pram or further travellers, a larger vehicle may be needed.
Calm before departure
A cat should not be introduced to the crate only shortly before the journey. Place the crate open in your home several days beforehand. A familiar blanket or a quiet retreat helps with this. Before departure: keep windows and doors closed, put the cat in the crate in good time, have your travel documents ready and allow plenty of time. Haste transfers to the animal.
Arriving at BER
At the terminal, the cat stays in the crate. Find out in advance about check-in times and your airline's requirements. These determine whether the animal travels in the cabin and what requirements apply to a bag or crate.
Also check the entry conditions of your destination country. Documents, vaccinations and any microchipping requirements are your responsibility.
