In short
With evening-before check-in you drop off your luggage the night before your flight and only need to pass security on the day of departure. This mainly helps travellers with very early flights. Availability depends on the airline and the time window, and it takes place in Terminal 1.
How evening-before check-in works
Ideally you check in online, travel to BER the evening before, and drop your luggage at the designated desk area in Terminal 1. On the flight day you skip the check-in desk and go straight to security and the gate.
Requirements
You usually need a confirmed booking, online check-in and valid travel documents. Some airlines require a time window or a deadline until the next day. Special luggage may have different rules.
Participating airlines and possible times

Documents needed
Have your ID or passport, the boarding pass from online check-in and your booking details ready. For travel outside the Schengen area, also check the destination country's entry requirements.
Getting to BER the evening before
For the evening bag drop, a transfer with a fixed pickup time is convenient, especially with several suitcases. You go, drop the luggage and return, without worrying about parking or connections.
Return to Berlin
After the bag drop you head back into the city. Plan the return at the same time so the evening is not shaped by waiting.
Alternative: airport hotel
If you fly very early, an overnight stay near the airport can replace two trips. Then only a short distance lies between bag drop and departure. Whether it is worthwhile depends on your departure time and where you live.
Transfer on the actual flight day
Even with evening-before check-in you still need a way to the terminal on the flight day. Plan the pickup time as usual; only the check-in step is removed. See How early to arrive at BER?.
