Smoking is not permitted in BER's general terminal areas. The airport provides designated outdoor zones and marked smoking cabins in the security area. Where you should go depends on whether you are before security or already near the gates.

Before security

Designated outdoor areas are listed beside Terminal 1 entrances on levels E0 and E1 and around U1. BER also lists an outdoor smoking area at Terminal 2. Follow airport signs and use only marked places. Allow enough time afterward for check-in and security.

After security

BER lists smoking cabins in the Terminal 1 gate area, including near Gates A02 and B02 on E1 and C01 on E2. Access depends on your current area and route. Check the on-site signs rather than making a long detour just before boarding.

Arrivals and connections

The airport also lists a smoking cabin in the Terminal 2 immigration area for arriving passengers. On a connection, first check whether you can remain airside and how much time you have. Do not leave the security area solely for a break without allowing for another security check.

Timing tips

  • Check your gate and boarding time first.
  • Use only clearly marked zones; general terminal spaces are smoke-free.
  • With a tight connection, go straight to the gate.
