Getting to BER from Berlin is easy — from the Brandenburg surrounding area it's much more complicated. The S-Bahn doesn't go everywhere, the regional trains run on a schedule but not everywhere, and by car you're faced with the parking question at the airport. A private transfer solves exactly this problem.
How far is what, exactly?
The Brandenburg municipalities around Berlin lie at varying distances from BER. Here are the typical routes:
Königs Wusterhausen: 15 km, about 25 minutes
Schönefeld (municipality, not the district): 5 km, 10 minutes
Blankenfelde-Mahlow: 12 km, 20 minutes
Teltow: 25 km, 35 minutes
Bernau bei Berlin: 50 km, 50 minutes
Falkensee: 60 km, 50-65 minutes
Oranienburg: 70 km, 60-75 minutes
Brandenburg an der Havel: 90 km, 1:15 hours
Frankfurt (Oder): 100 km, 1:15 hours
Cottbus: 130 km, 1:30 hours
Eberswalde: 90 km, 1:15 hours
Königs Wusterhausen and Schönefeld are right around the corner. Most other towns take just under an hour. Anyone travelling from Cottbus or Frankfurt (Oder) should plan for extra buffer time anyway.
What does it cost?
Price examples for Economy 1-2 people from selected Brandenburg towns:
Königs Wusterhausen: 59 euros
Falkensee: 89 euros
Oranienburg: 109 euros
Bernau: 99 euros
Teltow: 79 euros
Brandenburg an der Havel: 139 euros
Cottbus: 199 euros
Frankfurt (Oder): 159 euros
For larger vehicles — minivan, minibus 7pax — a surcharge applies in each case, but it pays off for a group of 4 or more, because travelling by individual train tickets no longer works then.
Why public transport often isn't an option
From most Brandenburg towns you can only reach BER with two or three changes. From Falkensee, for example: regional train to Berlin Hauptbahnhof, then the FEX to BER. 1:15 hours with good connections, more like 1:30 with bad ones. With family and three suitcases that's a real ordeal.
From Cottbus or Frankfurt (Oder) there are now direct RE connections to BER, which is pleasant. But: these trains only run hourly, and if your flight leaves at 6 in the morning, the first train often doesn't depart until 4:30 — provided it's a weekday and no construction work gets in the way.
From Brandenburg an der Havel or Eberswalde: even more complicated, often requiring a change in Berlin. Car plus parking fee for a week's holiday: 60-80 euros for parking plus fuel. In that case the transfer is usually cheaper.
Which Brandenburg municipalities we serve
As standard, all those that regularly travel to BER: Ahrensfelde, Bernau bei Berlin, Blankenfelde-Mahlow, Falkensee, Hennigsdorf, Hohen Neuendorf, Hoppegarten, Kleinmachnow, Königs Wusterhausen, Ludwigsfelde, Oranienburg, Schönefeld, Stahnsdorf, Teltow, Werder (Havel). From towns further afield — Brandenburg, Cottbus, Frankfurt (Oder), Eberswalde, Wittenberge, Potsdam — we also drive, but prices are then individual. Just enter your address in the booking form.
Practical: what you need when booking
Exact pickup address with house number. Flight number (so the driver can see delays — this applies above all to return trips, optional for outbound trips). Number of people and pieces of luggage (this determines the vehicle class). Child seat if needed (free of charge, just tick the box when booking).
Booking at least 16 hours in advance for standard vehicles, 24 hours for Premium and Minibus 19pax. For longer routes — Cottbus, Frankfurt — it's best to book two to three days ahead to be safe.
When is it most worthwhile?
If you have a longer route from the surrounding area and a public transport journey would mean two or more changes, then the private transfer is almost always more relaxed — and often cheaper for groups too. For a family from Bernau to BER: a minivan costs 109 euros, four RE tickets plus the FEX together come to around 40 euros. The extra cost is there, but in return there's no dragging suitcases, no changing trains, one address to the other.
Anyone travelling alone with little luggage should do the honest maths. Taking the RB22 from Königs Wusterhausen to BER is cheap and fast — the transfer is a luxury there, not a necessity. From Brandenburg or Cottbus, on the other hand, the transfer is almost always the clean solution.
