Berlin is constantly reinventing itself. Whether you are a visitor discovering the city for the first time or a Berliner looking to experience your own city anew – these 10 attractions show you a Berlin beyond the familiar clichés.
Brandenburg Gate and Pariser Platz – The Classic
We begin with the landmark par excellence. The Brandenburg Gate is not on every Berlin postcard for nothing. The surrounding Pariser Platz feels elegant, and in the evening the lighting creates a particularly beautiful atmosphere.
Getting there: S-Bahn Brandenburger Tor (S1, S2, S25) or U-Bahn Unter den Linden (U5).
Museum Island – Where Culture Meets Admission Prices
The UNESCO World Heritage Site Museum Island brings together five museums on a single island, from the Pergamon Museum to the Alte Nationalgalerie. Here you can educate yourself culturally in a systematic way – feel free to set aside a whole day for it.
Tip: The museum pass ticket is worth it if you want to visit several of the houses.
Tiergarten and Victory Column – Berlin's Green Oasis
At 210 hectares, the Tiergarten is a green oasis in the middle of the big city, popular with joggers, dog owners and strollers. The Victory Column at its centre offers a wide view over Berlin after 285 steps.
Note: On sunny weekends the park is well visited.
East Side Gallery – Graffiti with History
At 1.3 kilometres, the East Side Gallery is the longest surviving stretch of the Berlin Wall, painted by international artists. Here you will find well-known motifs such as the Fraternal Kiss and experience a piece of contemporary history right by the Spree.
Tip: The RAW-Gelände next door is a good place for a break.
Preußenpark Street Food Market – Thai Cuisine on Brandenburgische Straße
The former Thaipark has developed into a permanent street food market. The Thai cooks continue to offer fresh dishes at fair prices here.
Opening hours: 1 April to 31 October, Friday to Sunday from 10:00 to 20:00.
Address: Brandenburgische Straße 107, 10707 Berlin.
Getting there: U-Bahn Fehrbelliner Platz (U3, U7).
Charlottenburg Palace – Prussian Splendour
Berlin's largest palace impresses with magnificent rooms and an expansive Baroque garden. The Orangery and the Belvedere at the rear in particular are popular photo subjects.
Note: There is an admission fee for the interior rooms.
Tempelhofer Feld – From Airport to Park
The former Tempelhof Airport was turned into a 355-hectare park. On the former runways you can skate, cycle or fly kites. In good weather the field is well visited – remember to bring sun protection.
Hackescher Markt and Hackesche Höfe – Commerce Meets Charm
Hackescher Markt combines history with modern city life. The Hackesche Höfe are a labyrinth of Art Nouveau courtyards with galleries and cafés, ideal for strolling and exploring.
Friedrichshain: RAW-Gelände and Boxhagener Platz
The RAW-Gelände is a post-industrial site with clubs, bars and art in former railway buildings. A popular flea market takes place at Boxhagener Platz on Saturdays.
Kreuzberg: Görlitzer Park and Oranienstraße
Kreuzberg is colourful, lively and diverse. Görlitzer Park is a popular meeting point, and along Oranienstraße you will find snack bars, restaurants, vintage shops and Spätis lined up one after another.
Follow the "Ride App – Pick-up Area" signage to exit the terminal building. Once you have left the building, you will see Point A5 on your right and Point A6 (bus stop) on your left.
Now cross the pedestrian path and go to Meeting Point number 3, which is located in the middle between the two points. That is the fixed pick-up location.
You will find the vehicle's licence plate in your booking confirmation by email. Detailed information about the meeting point at BER Airport is provided at the time of booking and in your confirmation email.
These 10 attractions show Berlin in all its diversity: historic and modern, touristy and authentic at the same time. Whether you are here for the first or the hundredth time – Berlin can always be discovered anew.
From Köpenick, Friedrichshain and Tiergarten, too, you will find reliable airport transfers to BER. More information about Berlin Brandenburg Airport.
